More detail: the full write-up

Best for commuter and mid-capacity riders who want straight talk, fair pricing and a mechanic who has seen every fault on every Japanese bike since the eighties. Not the place if you want polished service language or phone-based quotes. Confirm tyre and parts pricing in writing before work starts, and ask outright whether any replacement part is new or second-hand.

The lowdown. Veteran motorcycle workshop tucked into Defu Lane 10, the industrial cluster off Hougang. Hua Ho has been around since the 1980s and runs as a no-frills general repair shop: servicing, oil changes, brake pads, batteries, tyres, plus motorbike COE renewal at one of the cheaper rates on the island. Walk-in, no website, payment by PayNow.

What riders say. The draw is the uncle and the mechanics, not the decor. Diagnostics are blunt and unsentimental. If a part does not need changing, they will not change it. If your bike is in a bad state, expect to be told plainly. Repeat customers stretch back ten, twenty, even forty years for routine servicing, tyre swaps and second-hand bike purchases.

Honest mechanic that fix your bike issues, without trying to overcharge or upsell you.

Friction sits in two places. Phone manner is short, sometimes abrupt, so quick part-availability checks can go badly. Bring the bike down instead. Pricing on tyres and small replacements has also shifted between morning quote and afternoon fitting, and used parts have been swapped in at new-part-feeling prices. Confirm the price and whether the part is new or recycled before you say yes.
