Best for owners who value an honest mechanic over a polished front desk, whether you ride a commuter scooter or a big bike. Expect plain talk and occasional bluntness when the shop is mid-job. Bring the bike in on a Friday or Tuesday morning if you want time to talk through the work, and skip the walk-up if you only need to borrow tools.

The lowdown. Kovan motorcycle workshop on Yio Chu Kang Road, near Heartland Mall. Run by Ah Hock with mechanic Jason. General servicing, diagnostics, repairs and tuning across commuters and big bikes. Motul and Shell engine oils on the shelf. Closed Wednesdays and Thursdays, open the rest of the week from 10am to 7:30pm.

What riders say. Walk in and you get plain talk. Ah Hock explains which faults need fixing now and which can wait, and tunes the bike during servicing rather than rushing it out. Pricing comes upfront before the wrench turns. Big bikes are familiar territory: Honda Phantom, CB400, Hayabusa, Aprilia Mojito and Ducati SuperSport S have all come through.

The friction is real. Ah Hock can come across curt when he is mid-job, and walk-ins asking for free favours have left annoyed. If you want hand-holding, this is not the shop. If you want straight answers and unhurried work, it is.
